This is a page for me to place resources - articles, podcasts, IG accounts, etc., that could be helpful to you.
I only have a few of what I consider my favourites so that you don't feel overwhelmed!
Book ... one book!
If you could read just one book, this is the one that I would recommend!
Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, by Ina May Gaskin
It is available at the library; I have a copy that I can lend to clients; or
you can buy it on Amazon here.

Podcasts
The Midwives' Cauldron with and The Great Birth Rebellion
are two podcasts out of Australia that are both fun to listen to and are incredibly informative.
As you may guess by the names, they each take a fresh look at topics relating to
fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding
that challenges the "this is just the way it is done" mindset. (This just makes my inner rebel happy!)
But don't be deceived by the fun and banter - these women are incredibly well-researched (there are some PhDs in the mix) and have loads of experience.
Local Info
The MotHERs Program offers a quick list of resources such as local hospitals information & tours, OBs and midwives, breastfeeding support, and drop-in groups for new parents in the following areas:
Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington County

Postpartum
Breastfeeding
If you would like to breastfeed, I can't recommend The Thompson Method enough.
After certifying with her Breastfeeding Program for Professionals, my whole approach has changed to encourage a more thoughtful and patient way of being. Our world is modeled on efficiency but babies cannot be hurried and both baby and mother benefit from having a much more relaxed approach as the new dyad learn to work together.
I highly recommend looking to see if there is a course to you feel comfortable with and, they often go on sale
About Dr. Thompson:
"After spending decades guiding women through labour and birth as a midwife, Dr Robyn made a curious observation: Women who gave birth to their babies at home had significantly better breastfeeding outcomes than those who gave birth in hospital.
Dr Robyn made it her mission to find out why that was the case and, at the age of 70, she was awarded the world's first PhD in nipple trauma.
Her seven years of PhD research became the basis for The Thompson Method, and her online programs have helped tens of thousands of women prevent and overcome common breastfeeding challenges."
What Does a New Baby Actually Need??
"There are a huge number of baby products available, but you only need the essentials to start with."
You can easily feel overwhelmed with all that a baby "needs" and there is a big business behind the thought of "the more, the better." If you would like to have lots of baby things, that is just fine, but if you prefer to have less, this could be a good place to start:
What to buy for your newborn baby
This site offers a refreshing change from what can feel like an overload of "needed" stuff, especially if you are a minimalist or want to be more of a minimalist in your parenting journey. My only comment on the quantity of clothes is to have enough for a potential of several changes per day that matches your laundry capacity. If you have easy access to laundry within your home, you might not need as much as compared to if you have to go to a laundromat or the laundry room in your apartment.
Parenting
Parenting is a lifelong experience that we learn as we go but the videos on this site offer some quick (about 5 minutes each), super-helpful, instructive videos on the workings and development of a child's brain.
"The Alberta Family Wellness Initiative (AFWI) is a network of Albertans coming together to improve health and wellness for everyone. In consultation with North America’s most prominent experts, we support and apply leading research about early brain development and its connection to adult health."
